Construction

The ANSI 300 SS316 flange end ball valve

Built to API 6D, with ANSI 300# flanges.

A quarter-turn ball valve that bolts into the line through ANSI 300# flanges, in 1/2″ to 6″ (DN15 to DN150). The body is stainless steel SS316 and it is designed and manufactured to API 6D, with face-to-face dimensions to ASME B16.10 and flange ends to ANSI B16.5.

On a flanged valve the standard is not paperwork — it is the dimensions. The ANSI 300# drilling has to match the flange it bolts to, and the face-to-face length has to match the gap in the pipe run. Both are in the size table. The other three flange standards we stock will not bolt to this one. All six compared.

Stainless throughout the pressure boundary

Body, ball and stem in SS316 (with CF8M, the cast equivalent, where the part is cast). Everything wetted is SS316 or PTFE.

PTFE everywhere it seals

Seat, gasket, O-ring and packing are all PTFE — which is what sets the 150 °C ceiling, not the stainless.

⚠ No anti-static device listed

The two cast-steel variants fit an SS304 anti-static device; this parts list does not include one. If you are on hydrocarbon duty and need the ball bonded to the body, tell us and we will confirm with the factory.

SS304 fasteners

Studs, nuts and screws in SS304 — more corrosion-resistant than the A193 B7 bolting on cast steel, and lower strength.

Ten sizes, 1/2″ to 6″

DN15 to DN150. Unlike the Class 150 range, there is no 5″ here — it steps from 4″ to 6″.

Tested at 6.0 / 4.4 / 0.6 MPa

Shell, seat and gas tightness, for service at −29 °C to 150 °C. Those are factory proof tests, not working pressures — do not design to them.

1. Side elevation

Dimensions

Eleven sizes, dimensions in millimetres. The two figures that decide whether the valve fits are face-to-face L — the gap it needs in the pipe run — and the bolt circle D1 with its hole pattern, which has to match the mating flange. Letters follow the manufacturer's drawing; where a letter is ambiguous we have left it as published rather than guess at it.

Measure the gap in the run against face-to-face L

Especially on a replacement — and measure the valve coming out rather than trusting a drawing.

Leave clearance for the lever

It needs a clear 90° sweep and on the larger sizes it is long. Send us the space you have if it is tight.

Support the weight

A Class 300 body is far heavier than Class 150 at the same size — 43 kg at 4″ — and a flanged valve must not hang on the pipework.

⚠ Most weights are not published

Only 3″ (31.00 kg) and 4″ (43.00 kg) carry a figure in the source. We have left the rest blank rather than estimate — ask us and we will weigh one.

The lever is long at the larger sizes

600 mm at 6″ and 500 mm at 3″ and 4″. Check the swing clearance before ordering — considerably longer than the Class 150 lever at the same size.

⚠ Do not design to these figures

They are manufacturing proof tests well above the working rating — the shell test proves the casting, the seat test proves the seal, and the gas test proves it holds low-pressure gas. The valve is not intended to operate there.

Gas tightness is 0.6 MPa across the whole range

The one figure that does not change with class or material.

The temperature limit is the PTFE seat

Stainless steel SS316 would take far more; the seat is what stops it. All six variants compared.

Flange standard first, then material.

Choose this one when

  • Your pipework is ANSI 300# — that is the first condition.
  • The fluid is corrosive, or clean and must not be contaminated — stainless throughout.
  • You need Class 300 — a 6.0 MPa shell test, two and a half times Class 150.
  • Your specification names API 6D — this is the only variant in the range built to it.

FAQ

Questions we get asked

Will an ANSI 300 SS316 bolt to my JIS or PN pipework?

No. An ANSI 300# flange will not mate with JIS 10K or PN10/16, even though the nominal pressures are close. The bolt circle, hole count and hole diameter all differ. Check the existing flange before ordering.

What is it made of?

Body, ball and stem in SS316 (with CF8M, the cast equivalent, where the part is cast). Seat, gasket, O-ring and packing are all PTFE. Fasteners are SS304. Everything wetted is SS316 or PTFE.

Is there an anti-static device?

Not listed on this variant. The two cast-steel variants fit an SS304 anti-static device; this parts list does not include one. If you are on hydrocarbon duty and need the ball bonded to the body, tell us and we will confirm with the factory.

What is the difference between API 6D and API 608?

API 6D is the pipeline valve standard — a heavier, pipeline-oriented specification than API 608, which the two cast-steel variants are built to. This variant is the only one in the flange end range built to API 6D, so it is the one to quote on pipeline work. Its flange ends are to ANSI B16.5 and face-to-face to ASME B16.10.

What are the test pressures, and can I use them as a working pressure?

Shell 6.0 MPa, seat 4.4 MPa, gas tightness 0.6 MPa. Those are factory proof tests, not working pressures — well above the working rating, and the valve is not intended to operate there.

Why is the temperature limit 150 °C if the body is stainless?

Because the limit is the PTFE seat, not the body. SS316 would take far more; the seat is what stops it. That applies to all six flange end variants whatever the body is made of.

Why do the item numbers in the bill of materials skip?

They are the manufacturer's numbers — the callout numbers from the sectional drawing, not a tidied 1 to 14 list. We have left them exactly as published so a spares order matches the drawing.

What sizes are available?

1/2″ to 6″ (DN15 to DN150) — ten sizes; the Class 300 range has no 5″. The dimension table carries full dimensions and weights for every size.
