Physical properties of both grades: density 7.99 g/cm³ · thermal conductivity 16.2 W/m·K (100 °C) · electrical resistivity 74 µΩ·cm (20 °C) · melting range 1,371–1,399 °C. Dual grade means one length meets the composition limits of both 316 and 316L at once — the strength of standard 316 plus the weld-zone corrosion resistance of the low-carbon grade.

Base working-pressure calculations on the minimum wall, not the nominal — the ±12.5% wall tolerance means the actual wall can be thinner than the schedule figure.

Pipe is specified by nominal bore and schedule; tube by OD and wall thickness. The nominal size of a pipe is a label, not a measurement. A312 = the pipe standard; A269 = the tube standard.
Pipe that meets the composition limits of both grades at once, so one length satisfies either callout. Carbon decides: 0.08% max for 316, 0.035% for 316L — the L is for low carbon, the right pick when welding.
It depends on the nominal bore — schedule is a wall thickness series, not a single number. SCH40 is the most common; SCH10, 80, 160 and XXS are the other regular options. Full tables are in the catalogue.
SS316 resists corrosion better — markedly so in chloride-rich environments. The reason is molybdenum (2.0–3.0% in 316; none in 304).
