Weight & bending: kg/m = 0.02507 × wall × (OD − wall), density 7.98 g/cm³ — e.g. 12 × 1.5 mm = 0.395 kg/m. Minimum cold bend radius is 3× OD; three-roll benders for large radii, rotary-draw/mandrel for tight ones.

Wall tolerance: our standard is ±10% (average wall thickness) — compliant with both A269 and A213. A213 also permits minimum wall thickness (+20% / −0%) — available on request with a minimum quantity. For more corrosive service, specify MO2.5 (min 2.5% molybdenum).

Applications

Typical applications

Chemical processing

Transporting corrosive chemicals, acids and solvents — sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, caustic soda.

Oil & gas

Offshore platforms, refineries and pipelines — crude oil, natural gas, petrochemicals; drilling equipment and heat exchangers.

Marine

Seawater desalination plants, shipbuilding, offshore structures — the molybdenum gives the chloride resistance.

Heat exchangers & HVAC

Boilers and HVAC systems for heat and fluid transfer; automotive and instrumentation lines too.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Should I order SS316 or SS316L?

If the tube will be welded during fabrication, specify SS316L — the lower carbon reduces carbide precipitation. Our stock is dual-spec SS316/316L, satisfying either callout.

Can it be used in seawater environments?

Yes — SS316 is highly resistant to seawater corrosion, ideal for marine and offshore structures. For more corrosive service, specify MO2.5 with minimum 2.5% molybdenum.

What wall tolerance do you supply as standard?

±10%, compliant with both ASTM A269 and A213 — that is average wall thickness (AWT), market standard practice. Minimum wall thickness on request with a minimum quantity.

Do you supply a mill test certificate?

An EN 10204 3.1 certificate comes as standard; 3.2 (countersigned by a third-party inspector) if contractually required — request before the order. Every length carries its heat number continuously along the tube.

What is the difference between the three finishes?

Annealed & pickled (AP): acid treatment removes post-annealing oxides — the process standard. Bright annealed (BA): closed-furnace annealing under hydrogen — a bright surface. Polished 320 grit: polished for appearance and cleanliness.

What is the tensile strength?

Annealed: TP316 515 MPa tensile / 205 MPa yield; TP316L 485 MPa / 170 MPa. Elongation 35% minimum in 50 mm, hardness capped at 90 HRB.

How do I work out the weight?

kg/m = 0.02507 × wall × (OD − wall), both in mm, density 7.98 g/cm³. Example: 12 × 1.5 mm = 0.395 kg/m.

How is it bent?

Minimum cold bend radius 3× OD. Three-roll benders for large radii; rotary-draw / mandrel benders for tight ones — protect the surface from carbon contamination and scoring.

How does SS316 compare to SS304?

SS316 resists corrosion better — the molybdenum (2.0–3.0%) is what gives it the edge; SS304 has none.

Are they in stock for Indonesia?

Yes — 4 to 60 mm in 6 metre lengths in our regional warehouses in Singapore and Malaysia; out within 24 hours of your PO, quotes within 2 working hours.
