How it works: a profile ring is cold formed into the tube itself on a Walform machine — a Viton seal sits on that ring before the union nut tightens. No separate cutting ring: nothing to omit, damage or install backwards.

Why buy Walform tube from us

  • Authorised Eaton Walterscheid distributor — tube, machines, tooling & DIN 2353 fittings from one source.

Walform Tube

DIN EN ISO 8434-1 · 6 – 42 mm · up to 800 bar
Formed to order Eaton Walterscheid L & S series

A compression joint without a separate cutting ring: the profile ring is cold formed into the tube on a Walform machine, a Viton seal sits on it, then the union nut. Rated to 800 bar (S series) and 500 bar (L series) — mates with DIN 2353 metric fittings.

State the tube OD & wall, series (L/S), the DIN 2353 fitting thread it lands on, and quantity/lengths — quotes back within 2 working hours.

Overview

Why Walform beats the cutting ring

Fewer things can go wrong

Simple, practical assembly that needs less skill than a cutting-ring joint made up by feel; fewer components means less to leak — no separate ring to omit, damage or install backwards.

Consistent under dynamic load

Reliable tube retention that keeps working under high dynamic loads; consistent quality across every joint because the machine forms the ring, not the fitter. Cheaper maintenance — the seal is the consumable, not the joint.

Three systems in the Walterscheid family: Walpro = two-edged metallic cutting ring, ~25% torque reduction, 30–60° tightening travel; Walring = cutting ring with a captive elastomeric soft seal; Walformplus = the machine-formed tube end (this page) — just three components, one sealing point, far shorter tightening time.

Preparation

Preparing the tube — four steps

1. Saw off square

Saw the end square — never use a tube cutter or cutting-off wheel.

2. Deburr & clean

Deburr inside and out; remove paint from the clamping and reshaping area.

3. Down to bare metal

Clean the tube end to bare metal; check for damage and spalling.

4. Three checks

The OD marked on clamping jaw & reshaper matches the tube; the clamping surface is oil-free (no slipping) and chip-free (correct clamping).

Forming on the machine outline · M-WF385Xplus / M-R7

Setup

Switch on · press “change tool” · fit the clamping jaw & hand-tighten the reshaper screw · close the holder · hold “start and function” ~2 s until the white lamp shows.

Forming

Union nut on the tube first · insert the tube horizontally to the stop · hold tight, press start (the cycle cannot be interrupted) · pull out, check for cracks · record the control diameter.

Matching machines

M-WF385Xplus: compact, quiet, colour-coded tooling. M-R7: RFID tool detection, automatic assembly, also runs Walpro & Walring. Both cover 6–42 mm.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is Walform tube?

A compression-joint tube connection from the Eaton Walterscheid fitting series — the profile ring is cold formed into the tube itself on a Walform machine, rather than being a separate cutting ring pressed onto the outside. To DIN EN ISO 8434-1, 6–42 mm OD.

What material is it made from?

Ordinary tube — it is the end that is special. Carbon steel: type NBK, material ST37.4 to DIN 2391; stainless: grade 1.4571 or SS316, cold drawn seamless, scale-free heat treated. It must suit cold bending and flaring; EN 10204 3.1 certificates come from the parent tube supplier.

What pressure will it take?

Up to 800 bar on 6–10 mm in the S series, and 500 bar in the L series. The rating falls as diameter rises — the full tables are above.

What is the difference between L and S?

Wall thickness, and therefore pressure — S is the heavy-duty series. At the same diameter the thread differs too: 6 mm L takes M12 × 1.5, 6 mm S takes M14 × 1.5.

What fittings does it connect to?

DIN 2353 metric fittings, which we stock as compression fittings. The union nut goes on before forming — it cannot be fitted afterwards.

Why Walform over a cutting ring?

Fewer things can go wrong: simpler assembly needing less skill, fewer components so less to leak, reliable retention under high dynamic loads, and consistent quality because the machine forms the ring.

Is it available in stainless?

Yes — formed from grade 1.4571 or SS316 tube, cold drawn seamless and scale-free heat treated.

Do I need a Walform machine?

To form it, yes — but you do not have to own one: we can form tube for you when the volume does not justify ownership. Tooling is size specific: each OD needs its matching clamping jaw and reshaper.

Can a joint be taken apart and re-used?

Yes — the profile ring is part of the tube wall, so breaking the joint does not consume it. The Viton seal is the consumable, not the joint.

What is a Viton seal?

A fluorocarbon elastomer — it withstands dynamic pressure impulse and vibration while compressed between two steel faces, and resists hydraulic oils and temperatures. The seal is what makes a steel-to-steel joint leak free.
